After fixing another old speed graphic and a graphex 90mm f6.8 lens, I put it to use with Fuji Acros on a clear evening shooting the Bay Bridge in SF. Developed in Kodak D76, 20C, 11 mins, agitation first minute then 6 flips every minute. Fixed in Kodak Rapid fix. Scanned with Epson Perfection V700.
Photo booth
Another successful photo booth gig. Thanks for Richard Lau for helping out with all the printing during Matthew and Jessica’s wedding. Two remote triggered flashes on one direct and one reflective umbrellas. Trigger system fully yongnuo (YN622 remotes + YN565II flashes). Shot using Canon 5D3 with 24-105mm f4 lens. Photos printed on two Canon CP720 and one Canon CP900 printers.
Matthew and Jessica wedding in FP3000b
Shot Matthew and Jessica’s wedding old school in FP3000b. I was equipped with two Polaroid Land 250 cameras a couple of packs of the discontinued FP3000b. The images turned out nice and again reminded me of images seen from my parents wedding.
Revue 400 SE Test Photos
A couple of months ago, I opened up my Revue 400 SE to try to fix the light meter again as it was two clicks off. Finally developed the test roll I did a couple of months ago. It looks like the problem is fixed! Kodak Tri-X 400, developed in Kodak d76, fixed in Kodak Rapid Fix, scanned with Epson Perfection V700.
Here is the facebook post regarding the fix:
Operating on the two Revue 400 SE cameras that I got a while back. One of the unit’s lightmeter is 2 clicks off! The photoresistor is old and way off. The radio shack replacement Cds resistors didn’t work. Maxing out the bias variable resistors inside and pushing the supply battery to 1.5V (instead of 1.35V) corrected only one click. So if I use iso 400 film, i just need to dial the iso setting to 800 and now the light meter is spot on!
I am quite happy with the result, looks like the meter is fixed!
Late night shoot at Sake Bar Ginn
Shot late night at Sake Bar Ginn. Zeiss Ikonta B 532/16, Fuji Acros 100, developed in Kodak d76, 25C, 10mins, first minutes agitation, 2 flips every minute, fixed with Kodak rapid fix. Scanned with Epson Perfection V700.
Three medium format frames at the Roundhouse
I was over at the Roundhouse for beers and took some photos inside. Shown here are three consecutive frames taken with my Zeiss Ikonta 532/16 on Fuji Acros 100. First two frames were taken with f16 @ 4 seconds. The last shot with f5.6 @ 1 second. Film developed in Kodak D76, 10 minutes @ 23C, 30 seconds initial agitation and two flips every minute, scanned with Epson Perfection V700.
Graflex Speed Graphic with Kodak Aero Ektar 178mm f2.5
About a year ago, I acquired the legendary Kodak Aero Ektar 178mm f2.5 lens and it was another few months after that I got it mounted on the speed graphic. The first trials of this lens gave me some headaches as I experienced micro-shakes from the large focal plane shutter. Finally, recently I went back to the beast and re-strengthen the mount, so far so good. Can’t wait to go out and take some shots with this!
I also went back to the Graflex speed graphic box and looked at the flash attachment. At first, I thought it was incomplete but in close inspection, everything was intact and looked amazingly cool once attached.
WPPD 2014
I haven’t done pinhole in the longest time and WPPD was a great excuse for me to start again. I was in Shanghai and faced with less than ideal weather conditions, drizzling on and off all day, windy and cold. Nevertheless, I managed to get a few shots in. It was quite a challenge to do long exposure in Shanghai because everyone is wondering what you are doing and in times stood right in front of my camera, ruined many shots.
I tried to do this as scientifically as possible. I will measure my film to hole distance and divide by 0.6 to get my f ratio (I usually stuck with f128) then I will use that in my meter. I didn’t want to use my expensive Acros for the job and used my el cheapo Shanghai film instead. The reciprocity is super crappy with that film. A shot that is meter to be one minute will take eight minutes to complete! The lighting was also bad as it was dark and gloomy most of the day and most conditions were metered to be 1 to even 30 minutes! I ended up taking a lot more Polaroids as it was rated at 3000 iso. The reciprocity is also quite bad with these Polaroids and a 30 second exposure will span into a 2.5 minutes shot.
With all the rain and chaos, I ended up at home and made a few shots of the beautiful tiger lillies in a more controlled environment. The following is a photographic diary of today’s shoot.
Prelude to WPPD
Getting my equipment ready for WPPD (http://www.pinholeday.org/)
Speed graphic with pin hole board + FP3000b + Shanghai film. Special thanks to Kirk Lau for his assistance with the making of the pinhole! It’s extremely precise at 0.6mm!
Fixing the Graphex 135mm Lens
Operating on the Graphex 135mm lens tonight. Anything below 1/25 doesn’t work, B does but not T, flash trigger also dead. I already cleaned up the shutter blades with no luck. Finally cracked open the shell and looked at the inside. A simple drops of oil in the right places and a good cleaning of the contacts solved both issues! The lens is super snappy and I am very happy!
